Indulging in Self Love

Whether you are in the midst of planning your wedding, married, in a long-term relationship, just started dating, or (like me) single, everyone should spend time pampering themselves with some self love.

We spend most of our days taking care of others and putting their needs first.  But as we give so much of ourselves daily to others, we need to remember that we, personally, need to show love to ourselves as well.

Self love can be expressed in many ways.  Simply looking at yourself in the mirror and saying "I love you" can be one of the most difficult yet fulfilling acts of self love.  Buying flowers for yourself every week to put on your desk or beside your bed because staring at them makes you feel happy inside.  Or eating dessert or candy without feeling guilty and enjoying the taste of the flavors in your mouth.  All of these are simple examples of self love, an indulgence that brings you happiness.

As we head into the weekend, take some time to appreciate yourself in an intentional way.  Here are some of my favorite ways I love to pamper myself:

Light some candles - this is super simple to do.  Lower the lights or turn them off completely and then light a few candles to give your room a nice cozy feeling.  One of my favorite candle brands is Woodwick.  I don't have a fireplace where I live so I light a couple of Woodwick candles to get the crackling sound of the fireplace.

Use essential oils - I've known about essential oils for awhile now but I started to integrate them into my life last year.  Now, before I go to sleep, I roll on lavender essential oil on my temples and behind my ears to help me sleep.  The scent is incredibly soothing.

Books - Reading has been my favorite pastime since I was a little girl.  Give me a romance, mystery, or science fiction fantasy and I will spend hours getting lost in a story.  Today, my book tastes include lots of books on self-development, but when I'm looking to indulge, I'll grab a good romance novel and lose myself in a story for hours.

Comfy bed sheets - I don't have sheets with a high thread count.  They're nothing fancy, probably plain cotton, but they are incredibly comfortable.  I love to snuggle in and lie in bed feeling safe in my own little haven away from the hustle of the world.

What do you do to pamper yourself?  What will you do to pamper yourself this weekend and show yourself some self love?
