Yesterday, we said goodbye to a man who has guided the people of the United States for the past eight years. Whether you are a fan of former President Barack Obama or not, he has made a huge impact in the lives of Americans and I, personally, will miss the energy, thoughtfulness, and inspiration he, his wife, daughters, and team brought to our country.
Below are 5 of my favorite quotes from Former President Barack Obama:
“If you’re walking down the right path and you’re willing to keep walking, eventually you’ll make progress
How many times do you question if you're at the right place, the right job, the right relationship? Keep going down your path, if you are meant to be on another one, opportunities will arise.
“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.
This quote says it all. If you want to see change, make the change happen through your own actions.
“The most difficult thing is to carve out time to think, which is probably the most important time for somebody who’s trying to shift an organization, or in this case, the country, as opposed to doing the same things that have been done before. And I find that time slips away.
We are constantly on the go. A lot of our actions are second nature and don't take much thought into what we are doing. However, when I try to stop and think, really think about what I want for myself, my business, and my future, I am easily distracted. The average human attention span is approximately 8 seconds and while I've never taken the time to count how long it takes me to get distracted, I know my own attention span is pretty short and time quickly slips away as I am distracted from one topic to another without ever really focusing.
“If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help... Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business - you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.
This quote means so much because I am here in the process of building my business. I don't have any prior experience with entrepreneurship and it's been a struggle. If it wasn't for my coach I would be completely lost and I may have stopped this journey a long time ago.
“The future rewards those who press on. I don’t have time to feel sorry for myself. I don’t have time to complain. I’m going to press on.
When I was in graduate school, I was working full time, commuting over 100 miles a day for four days a week, and finishing a 3-year program in 2-years. After I graduated with Honors, people would ask me how I did it. My response was "I just did it. I didn't think about what I was doing, I just did it." This quotes reflects what I felt was happening in my life and what happens now as I work to grow my audience and bring on clients. Every time I hear "no, thanks" I don't feel sorry for myself. I press on. I know the rewards will come in the future. Until then, I'll press on.
